From Sip to Speech: Pigeon Singapore Launches StarTouch™ Straw Cup to Support Baby’s Oral Motor Development
Singapore, 2 July 2025 – Every coo, every gurgle, every tiny sip – these seemingly small moments are actually powerful milestones in a baby’s journey of growth. Recognising the pivotal link between feeding and speech development, Pigeon Singapore is proud to unveil StarTouch™ Straw Cup with Gravity Ball, a thoughtful and innovative solution designed not just to hydrate, but to support babies’ journey toward confident communication.
Co-developed with Dr Lisa Lim, a Singapore-based Speech-Language Pathologist (PhD) and Clinical Director at The Speech Practice with over 17 years of clinical experience, Pigeon StarTouch™ Straw Cup is built to promote healthy oral motor development, shaping the very muscles and movements essential for speech.
“Early feeding experiences lay the foundation for how babies learn to breathe, chew, and eventually speak,” said Dr Lim. "I wanted a cup that does more than just deliver liquids; I wanted a cup that supports babies in developing essential oral motor skills such as tongue tip elevation, jaw stability and lip closure from the very start,” she continued.
By leveraging Dr Lim’s extensive knowledge, Pigeon refined every detail: from the angle and positioning of the straw to how the valve opens in response to gentle sucking – not biting. Complemented with a gravity ball that allows babies to drink from any angle, the cup supports the development of lip closure, tongue retraction, and jaw stability – key foundations for safe swallowing and early speech development, which help develop oral motor skills essential for healthy growth. Together, these thoughtful features make the
Pigeon StarTouch™ Straw Cup the right cup for easy sips – and a science-backed way to support your baby’s development, one sip at a time.
“Partnering with Dr Lim opened up new ways to look at product design through a developmental lens. Her deep understanding of feeding and speech helped us reimagine what a straw cup can do, not just for hydration, but for healthy oral motor development. Pigeon StarTouch™ Straw Cup empowers parents with a simple tool that delivers meaningful impact – one sip at a time,” shared Masataka Hongo, Managing Director of Pigeon Singapore.
A Smarter, Science-Backed Way to Sip

Left to Right: Pigeon StarTouchTM Straw Cup with Gravity Ball in Mint To Be, Berry Blast and Bubblegum Pop
Pigeon StarTouch™ Straw Cup is thoughtfully designed to support natural oral motor development, helping babies build crucial mouth movements in a natural and enjoyable way.
Conventional sippy spout cups and long straws might hinder proper tongue posture by encouraging the tongue to stay low in the mouth or push forward. Some valved straws require stronger suction, which can sometimes lead babies to adopt alternative sipping patterns, such as tongue thrusting, lip pursing, or jaw jutting, that may not support optimal oral motor development. Over time, this may be associated with immature oral-motor patterns that affect how babies learn to feed efficiently and produce speech sounds clearly. This newest addition supports muscle memory for key oral motor skills essential for speech clarity, especially the development of lip rounding (for early developing sounds like “oo” and “w”), lip closure (needed for sounds such as “b,” “p”, “m”), and tongue elevation (important for early speech sounds like “t,” “d”, “n”).
Key Features:
● Short Straw – The short straw reaches only to the baby’s tongue tip, supporting tongue tip elevation at the alveolar ridge and promoting a mature swallow pattern.
● Sensory Bumps – Provide tactile feedback to encourage lip rounding and closure, and help strengthen lip muscles for sounds like “oo,” “w,” and “b”.
● EasyDrink Valve – Allows for easy, spill-free sipping without hard suction or biting
Available in 3 vibrant, eye-catching colours – Bubblegum Pop, Berry Blast, and Mint To Be – Pigeon StarTouch™ Straw Cup is as fun and stylish to use as it is beneficial. It’s thoroughly tested to ensure safe and consistent use throughout daily routines, meeting the standards parents expect in an infant product.
With both functionality and sustainability in mind, the cup is thoughtfully designed with:
● Gravity Ball Straw – Supports natural sipping from any angle
● Minimal parts for quick and easy cleaning, supporting better hygiene by reducing hidden spots where germs and residue can accumulate
● BPA- and BPS-free materials to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals
● 20% ISCC-certified bio-based plastic¹, making it a more eco-conscious choice
Plus, the adapter from the cup is cross-compatible with Pigeon SofTouch™ Nursing Bottles² 240ml (excluding Glass), allowing for an easy start to straw drinking.
From Left to Right: StarTouch™ Adapter & Straw Set, StarTouch™ Replacement Straw Set, and SofTouch Nursing Bottle with StarTouch™ Adapter & Straw Set
For parents already using Pigeon SofTouch™ Nursing Bottles, introducing straw drinking is now simpler than ever. Starting in August, the StarTouch™ Adapter & Straw Set (S$12.90) and Replacement Straw Set (S$9.90) will be available for purchase at the same retailers as the Pigeon StarTouch™ Straw Cup.
Both sets can be paired with Pigeon SofTouch™ Nursing Bottles 240ml/300ml/330ml.
The Pigeon StarTouch™ Straw Cup with Gravity Ball is priced at S$20.90 (250ml) and will be available both in stores and online after 6 July at Pigeon E Shop, Agape Babies, Amazon, Baby Kingdom, Isetan, First Few Years, Kiddy Palace, Mothercare, Motherworks, NTUC Fairprice, OG, Lazada, Shopee, Takashimaya, Tangs and Tom & Stefanie.

A Pacifier with Purpose: MiniLight Pacifier Sustainable Collection in Collaboration with The Animal Project
Singapore, 25 June 2025 – Can something as small as a pacifier inspire a bigger movement – one that soothes babies, protects the planet, and uplifts voices from the autism community? Pigeon Singapore officially launches the MiniLight Pacifier Sustainable Collection, a meaningful collaboration with homegrown social enterprise The Animal Project (TAP). Designed with both impact and intention, each pacifier in the collection is a quiet yet powerful symbol of inclusivity, sustainability and the creative brilliance of artists with special needs.
A Collaboration that Celebrates Inclusivity and Diverse Talents
- Foo Thong Keen, who has keen eyes for observational drawing (pun intended). His animals often carry a bewildered expression; their eyes are wide open, with jaws dropped in disbelief.
- Jolie Lim, whose illustrations have a mischievous and joyful streak. Her animal illustrations are so quirky, they put a smile on your face.
- Tay Jun-Yi, who simply loves drawing animals. With just a black marker, he brings each creature to life through distinctive, cheeky expressions and vivid depictions of social interactions – something he rarely initiates himself due to his autism.

Pigeon Unveils GoMini™️ Plus Electric Breast Pump – Empowering On-The-Go Mums with Exclusive Rhythmic Expression Mode
Breastfeeding made simple and comfortable.
Singapore, 30 August 2023 - Pigeon, the brand synonymous with trustworthy products for mothers and babies, is proud to announce the highly-anticipated launch of its second-generation GoMini™ Electric Breast Pump, the GoMini™ Plus. Tailor-made for modern, on-the-go mums, this groundbreaking innovation promises a pumping experience like never before. Made with love and backed by decades of breastfeeding research, the new GoMini™ Plus redefines convenience and comfort for breastfeeding mothers.
Source: Pigeon Lab (SG) GoMini™ Plus wave patterns for Stimulation Mode (1 wave pattern) and the new Rhythmic Expression Mode (3 wave patterns). The Rhythmic Expression Mode has 3 wave levels to closely simulate how a baby naturally suckles.
Innovated With Love PLUS Science To Bring Greater Comfort
Finding a suction pressure that is just right is essential for a smooth and comfortable pumping experience. Years of dedicated research and development in breastfeeding have borne fruit in the form of the GoMini™ Plus’s Rhythmic Expression Mode that is unique to Pigeon. “Since a baby’s suckling motion is not of a constant speed and pressure, pumping with a variable rhythm, similar to a baby’s suckling motion, is preferred amongst many mothers as they feel that it empties the breast fully and comfortably. Many mothers tend to assume that having a stronger suction is always better but in reality, what really matters is their own comfort level with the suction.” says Sumiko Kuroishi, Senior Researcher at Pigeon’s Research and Development Department in Japan. For maximum comfort, the new Rhythmic Expression Mode of the GoMini™ Plus mixes strength and speed. Mothers can select their desired suction level from 5 different intensities. With a variable rhythm, akin to a baby suckling, the Rhythmic Expression Mode kicks in to extract mothers’ liquid gold naturally and comfortably. The GoMini™ Plus also comes with a silicone flange cushion for a snug fit around mothers’ breasts. The Perfect Companion for On-The-Go Mums
With today's fast-paced lifestyle, mothers need a reliable companion that supports their breastfeeding journey in any setting; the GoMini™ Plus might just be the one. Whether at home, in the office, or while travelling, this compact breast pump delivers a pleasant and efficient pumping experience. Coming in at just 148g or roughly 8 strawberries, the lightweight build of the GoMini™ Plus makes it easy to slip into a purse or a baby bag, and allows for one-hand operation of the pump. A new pause and resume function on the motor unit of the pump allows mums to have better control over their pump sessions.Pump-Store-Feed-Care: Wholehearted Support For Every Mum’s Breastfeeding Journey
At Pigeon, supporting mothers on their breastfeeding journey goes beyond innovative products. Pigeon’s extensive research has led to the development of Pump-Store-Feed-Care, which encompasses a system of Pigeon breastfeeding devices and accessories that are essential for a seamless and comfortable breastfeeding experience. From efficient pumping with the GoMini™ Plus Electric Breast Pump, to storing precious breast milk safely in Pigeon Breast Milk Storage Bags, to effortlessly feeding their little ones with Pigeon SofTouch™ Nursing Bottles, and caring for mum’s breasts with Pigeon Nipple Care Cream or Pigeon Nipple Shield, Pigeon is dedicated to being every family’s go-to partner for mother and baby needs. To apply the Pump-Store-Feed-Care system to the GoMini™ Plus, the breast pump comes with two of Pigeon’s SofTouch™ PP Nursing Bottles, two pieces of sealing discs to use the bottles for breast milk storage and two sets of nipples, screw caps and hoods for immediate feeding.Availability
The Pigeon GoMini™ Plus Electric Breast Pump (retailing at $193) and other breastfeeding-related products are available for purchase at major departmental stores, baby specialist stores, online marketplaces and Pigeon’s E-Shop.

Pigeon SofTouch Nursing Bottles: The New Third-Generation
Pigeon: The Softest Touch
Pigeon revamps and upgrades its iconic SofTouch Nursing Bottles with an even softer nipple and an added research-based latch-on line.
It also launches T-Ester bottle, an innovative glass-like material first used in nursing bottles.
Singapore, August 2022 - Pigeon, the number 1 brand for nursing bottles preferred by moms and babies around the world, has remained true to its purpose to create a baby-friendly world - constantly improving and enhancing the journey for both moms and babies. To better cater to as many babies as possible, Pigeon has researched on and revamped its most popular SofTouch Nursing Bottles to create an even softer nipple with a research-based latch-on line. Developed to functionally mimic the feeding movements that babies perform when drinking from mother’s breasts, the new Pigeon SofTouch Nursing Bottles are crafted to especially support breastfeeding mums by enabling them to feed their baby from both breast and bottle seamlessly. In addition to the new nipple, Pigeon has launched a new nursing bottle using the innovative T-Ester, a material developed exclusively for Pigeon in Japan. These new Pigeon SofTouch T-Ester Nursing Bottles are UV-steriliser friendly, and possess a stronger resistance to UV degradation compared to other plastics. The new Pigeon SofTouch Nursing Bottles will start rolling out from 19 August 2022 at all authorised retailers.Pigeon SofTouch Nursing Bottles: The New Third-Generation
Developed based on years of research to closely replicate a baby’s natural nursing motion, Pigeon developed the new SofTouch Nursing nipples using a softer silicone, structured to encourage babies to latch on easily and properly, as if they are breastfeeding. Research conducted by Pigeon revealed that a breastfeeding baby takes the mother’s nipple into the mouth to a depth of approximately 22mm from the tip, with the lips covering the breast up as far as the areola. A mother’s nipple is also studied to stretch to about 1.4 times its usual length in the baby’s mouth.
Pigeon SofTouch Nursing Bottles: Leaving A Better Future For The Next Generation
"We strive to create a future that is full of joy and freedom; a future that encourages curiosity and celebrates diversity. " Mr. Yusuke Nakata, CEO, Pigeon Singapore Business Unit
With that, Pigeon has developed a limited edition series under the new Pigeon SofTouch Nursing Bottles in collaboration with The Animal Project - a social enterprise that supports inclusions and celebrates talented local artists with autism and the related challenges. The Animal Project empowers artists with special needs, with every sale of its product embellished with the artist’s artwork, by contributing directly to the artists’ income through a royalty payment scheme. In line with Pigeon’s commitment to leave a more sustainable future for all babies growing up, the limited edition bottle is made with Biomass-PP, a 100% bio-based plastic made from pulp-derived tall oil and waste cooking oil instead of petroleum. The drawings of animals in a beautiful biodiversity on the body of the bottle is printed using laser printing technology instead of ink, which generates less heat and waste.
Pigeon SofTouch Nursing Bottles: All Smiles Are Precious
Honouring our commitment to understanding and addressing babies' unique needs means that we need to cater to all babies, no matter the differences. This is why we have partnered with Smile Asia, a global alliance of charities working together to raise standards of medical care for babies born with cleft lip and cleft palate. Pigeon is committed to contributing to the creation of opportunities for collaborative learning and exchange of best practices to treat the facial deformities. From cash donations to the sponsorship of products to Smile Asia that are essential for babies with cleft to be used in medical missions and care centres, including cleft bottles, long nipple bottles, and nursing bottles, Pigeon also commits to a sponsorship of other products for medical missions and care centres, including baby wipes, anti-bacterial wet tissues, and hand sanitisers. To support the specialised training and education programmes for healthcare and allied professionals, Pigeon also offers the sponsorship of relevant products to be used at the training centres. -END- About Pigeon Corporation Pigeon was founded in Japan in 1957 by Yuichi Nakata with the aim of meeting the needs of mothers worldwide by producing a range of high quality, durable and user-friendly merchandise for babies and toddlers. The premium nursing bottle for the millennial mummy
Pigeon innovates new bottle range made with T-Ester, a new type of plastic never before used in nursing bottles
Singapore, 28 April 2022 - Leading mother and baby care brand Pigeon has cemented its position in the industry in 1957 with its constant innovation of products and keeping up with the times; all to make the world more baby-friendly. With years of extensive research, Pigeon is proud to present its latest range of nursing bottles made using a new type of plastic material called T-Ester. The new T-Ester material was created with a new generation of mothers in mind. With a strong focus on both function and design, it took 4 years of intensive research and testing to perfect the balance. “I am happy this project is finally coming to fruition. It has taken many rigorous trials to get here,” says Mr Kouji Hondou, Senior Manager of the Pigeon Japan Engineering Department. In 2016, after a few arduous years of looking for another innovative material to add to its bottle range and a paused search, Pigeon has found a promising existing material made in Japan and modified it to meet the corporation's stringent requirements. In 2016, after a few arduous years of looking for another innovative material to add to the Pigeon bottle range and a paused search, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) worked with Pigeon to modify one of their existing materials to meet the corporation’s stringent requirements. Come 2019, the T-Ester material, originally named Altester, was born. Pigeon is the first and only brand in the market to have a milk bottle using T-Ester. Glass-like clarity

Holistic skincare every baby deserves
Pigeon’s new Natural Botanical Baby skincare series allows consumers to shower love on their kids and the planet

Singapore, 15 September 2021 – Leading mother and baby care brand Pigeon has launched its Natural Botanical Baby series which reflects its commitment to sustainability while offering comprehensive skin nourishment and protection through a thoughtful blend of natural ingredients.
In line with the company’s guiding philosophy of caring for both babies and the planet, the new range consists of four dermatologically tested products - Head & Body Wash, Water Gel, Milky Lotion, and Massage Oil – that have been created through sustainable means, including the usage of recycled plastics.
“We are pleased to launch the Natural Botanical Baby skincare series, which represents our commitment to providing high-quality products that improve the quality of life while caring for the environment," said Mr. Yusuke Nakata, CEO, Pigeon Singapore Business Unit.
“Our skin is the largest organ of the body – it is vital to keep it well nourished and we must be mindful of providing the care it needs. This is especially important for babies as they have more sensitive skin. Through this new range of skincare products, parents can rest assured that their babies will receive the optimal protection and nourishment.”
The Natural Botanical Baby skincare series is made primarily from nutrient-rich natural ingredients like argan oil, olive oil and chamomile, all of which possess important qualities that support the development of strong, smooth and healthy skin.
Argan oil, for example, is packed with Vitamin E and essential fatty acids that enhance skin regeneration and help with the formation of the skin’s natural oil barrier. Olive oil, which is rich in antioxidants and vitamins, is ideal for protecting and hydrating the sensitive skin that babies have. Chamomile, a well-known natural relaxant, provides relief for irritated skin and even aids with sleep.
FROM NATURE, FOR NATURE
Pigeon has always adhered to the belief that humans share a symbiotic relationship with the planet. This is why the company has been proactively giving back to Mother Nature as it borrows the goodness and nourishment of natural ingredients to provide care for babies.
Just like how it spares no effort in research and development to create high-quality products using natural ingredients, Pigeon has also gone the extra mile to protect nature by adopting these sustainability initiatives in the production of the Natural Botanical Baby series.
These initiatives include:
✧ All Natural Botanical regular-sized plastic bottles are made using 20% recycled plastics to minimize the use of raw materials and energy in the production process.
✧ In collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Singapore), Pigeon has planted 5,000 fruit tree seedlings to support reforestation efforts in Indonesia. When mature, these trees will provide the rural communities with not just a source of food but also a means of generating revenue through the sales of the fruit.
The trees will also offer watershed protection and reduce problems such as flooding and soil erosion while helping mitigate the impact of climate change.
✧ Uncontrolled palm oil production can lead to devastating consequences like deforestation, which would adversely affect protected species of plants and biodiversity levels. Left unchecked, palm oil production could even result in unscrupulous labour practices and people being displaced from the land.
Concerned about the negative side effects of palm oil production, Pigeon has recently become an RSPO member and actively supports sustainable palm oil production around the world by trading in RSPO Credits*. This contributes to creating a critical high demand for sustainable palm oil products in the global market.
*An RSPO credit is evidence that one tonne of certified sustainable palm oil was generated by a company that has been certified as a sustainable producer.
✧ Pigeon's commitment to being eco-friendly was also extended to the way its advertising campaign for the new product range was carried out. For this campaign, Pigeon specially engaged papercraft artists to create backdrops made from reused materials for the marketing video. The result? An ad campaign that is not just pleasing to the eyes, but also kinder to the environment.
SOLUTIONS INFORMED BY LOVE AND SCIENCE
Love is at the heart of Pigeon's corporate philosophy and credo. In the words of Mr Nakata, the company will not be able to create its trusted products and services if it does not share the same love that mothers have for their babies. In other words, mothers want only the best for their children and Pigeon feels exactly the same way.
To create a more baby-friendly world and meet the unique needs of babies, Pigeon relies on the delicate combination of love and natural ingredients. The production process is also highly informed
by scientific research, which has shown that, contrary to popular perception, going fully natural may not always be the safest approach.
For this reason, more than 90% of its ingredients are from natural origin while the remaining 10% are added to improve the safety, integrity, and fragrance of the Natural Botanical products.
Certainly, the question on the necessity for these ingredients arises. Preservatives are necessary to prevent product damage and contamination which could harm the baby. The use of reagents like citric acid and sodium hydroxide are also important as they ensure that the product is compatible with the natural pH of babies’ skin, thus reducing the risk of skin irritation.
HOLISTIC PROTECTION AND NOURISHMENT Below is the recommended skincare routine using the Natural Botanical Baby series.
Step 1: Cleanse

As baby skin is prone to dryness, using Natural Botanical Water Gel in the day helps to ensure that the skin gets the moisture it needs. However, parents often worry that Singapore's humid climate coupled with the use of moisturisers can result in excessive greasiness. Natural Botanical lightweight water-based gel causes none of that – babies are left with a comfortable experience as the moisturiser is easily absorbed by the baby's skin, leaving it smooth and supple.
In the evenings, use the Natural Botanical Milky Lotion to provide long-lasting moisturisation through the night. The non-greasy formula soothes the baby's dry, itchy skin while preventing any discomfort during their sleep. Step 3: Seal
Getting the baby ready for bed? An application of this calming chamomile-infused Natural Botanical Massage Oil will help your baby drift off into slumber. This gentle oil is 99% natural and leaves a protective film over the skin that seals in the moisture.
AVAILABILITY The Natural Botanical Head & Body Wash, Water Gel, Milky Lotion and Massage Oil are now available in major departmental stores, baby specialist stores, Watson, online marketplaces and Pigeon e-Shop.
